International Indigenous Peoples’ Forum on Climate Change
As negotiations continue in Bonn, discussions on the operationalization of the Just Transition Mechanism are gaining momentum.
In this context, the International Indigenous Peoples’ Forum on Climate Change (IIPFCC) has submitted its views on the latest informal note under the UAE Just Transition Work Programme.
The latest submission of the IIPFCC highlights that while the note "provides a good starting point for further discussing the JT Mechanism and moving towards a draft text. At the same time, it does not fully capture the range of views expressed in the contact group, nor the key messages in the synthesis report of the 5th dialogue. Particularly, it is missing references to 2.CMA/7 paragraph 12 (i), as well as references to Indigenous Peoples’ food sovereignty, protection of Indigenous Peoples’ rights to lands, territories and resources, and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)".
In response, the IIPFCC has outlined concrete proposals to strengthen the text and ensure alignment with Decision 2/CMA.7.
