IIPFCC Position Paper on the Operationalization of Paragraph 12(i) Through the Just Transition Mechanism

As Parties gather in Bonn for SB64 to begin discussions on operationalizing the Just Transition Mechanism in line with the outcomes of the Just Transition Work Programme (JTWP), the International Indigenous Peoples Forum on Climate Change (IIPFCC) has shared its position paper outlining five key recommendations from Indigenous Peoples.

The paper identifies Indigenous Peoples’ priorities for ensuring that the mechanism effectively implements the commitments already recognized in the JTWP outcomes, particularly paragraph 12(i). It focuses on how the mechanism’s functions, activities, outputs, and institutional arrangements can support Indigenous Peoples’ rights, address risks associated with transition pathways, strengthen Indigenous Peoples’ participation, and promote Indigenous-led solutions and Knowledge Systems in implementing just transition pathways.

The IIPFCC invites Parties, observers, and stakeholders to consider these recommendations as discussions progress at SB64.
